The Sairtunnul System is known by a very few throughout the Expanse, owing its anonymity to its lack of resources and its location deep within the Expanse. All that is known for certain is that at one time Mercenary General Clive Summervale visited the planet and by making a deal with the stranded Kroot that now call the twelfth planet in the system home, left with almost a regiment’s worth of soldiers and the promise to return with the supplies needed to repair the Kindred’s disabled War Sphere.

Sairtunnul XII is a verdant, green planet with its surface dotted by innumerable large lakes and small inland sears. Suffident water can be found in the subsoil to support the plate life that carpets the majority of the planet’s surface, although the equatorial regions are noticeably dryer scrublands while the poles have small ice caps. The remainder of the planet’s liquid reserve is to be found in a light cloud layer, which is concentrated in gentle belts around each tropic. Lacking as it does any major surface water features; the planet’s weather system is remarkably stable with only slight variations in weather patterns across its surface.

The vegetated area of the surface is most dense at the tropics, and consists of sub-tropical forests. These are largely dominated by a range of tall, fern-like trees, many of which reach heights in excess of twenty meters. There these are especially thick, the forest floor is devoid of other plant life, making the going easy beneath the shade of the think canopy above.

Sairtunnul XII teems with fauna, the vast majority of it insectoid. A high proportion of oxygen in the atmosphere has allowed many of these species to attain an impress size, with the largest of their kind, a sinuous, wasp-like creature with three separate sets of wings along its thorax so large it could pose a threat to a lightly armed shuttle. Although broadly classifiable as insects, such creatures exhibit a wide range of features; multiple sets of wings, hundreds of legs and even more than one head.

A staggering variety of amphibious life can be found near the lakes and seas, most of which eats the insects. These range from tiny, blood-sucking frogs to gargantuan, newt-like beasts with prehensile tongues use to capture the largest flying insects.

Hidden amongst the teeming fern forests of the planet are signs that the Kroot were not the first visitors to this planet. Large yellowed structures rise up from the floor, often coated in vines and ferns not looking unlike another tree themselves. The purposes and origin of these monolithic structures is unknown by the Kroot but are usually avoided unless they seek an advantage against the dangerous creatures that stalk the planet.

The Kroot found them stranded upon the surface of the planet many years ago due to damage sustained after engaging human forces. If these were Imperial or otherwise is not known by the teller of the tale, but the result was all the same. After bringing the doomed war sphere to rest on the surface, the Kroot were unable to repair their once majestic vessel and have since been secluded to this emerald in a sea of black. The hopes of the Kindred rested squarely on the promise of one General Summervale but it was for naught as he stole away with the men gifted to him and began selling them piecemeal throughout the Calixis Sector. Unusual in that he was able to procure the services of someone willing to sanction en masse his Xenos cargo, the last that the storyteller states of his kindred is that they were sold for soldiering, oddity, dissection and sport.
